onlara her baktığımda çocukluğuma dönerim.
Babam,
anneme tüm özel günlerde bir buket karanfil verirdi.
Böylesine güzel ve özel kumaşlarımızın
kullanım açısından kaybolmaya yüz tutmaya başlaması bende ciddi üzüntü yarattığından,
Şile Bezi ve Yazma kumaşlarını Fütüristik çizgide birlikte kullanarak giyilebilir
giysiler olarak tasarladım.
Son dönem resimlerimde yer verdiğim
yüzey bölümlerinden yola çıkarak oluşturduğum kolaj tekniğini kumaşa
uygulayarak çalıştığım giysi tasarım yolculuğumun bu ilk örnekleri tematik
olarak devam edecektir.
Yasemin Lümalı is an
artist and designer based on Turkey. She focused on semi-modern and functional
garments and she produced clothes by using traditional Turkish fabrics ‘Şile
bezi’ (Shelebazy) and “Yazma” (Yazmah). Yasemin finds her inspiration within
the textile crafting traditions of ancient times and the vivid beauty of
traditional fabrics.
Her slow fashion
designs reflect her glance of everyday life.
Her semi-handmade
wearable pieces are created for ‘Şile Bezi’ and are designed by using
authentic ‘Yazma’ fabrics collage-combination for an artisan haute-couture
label. They reflect her artistic approach and sensitivity of her collage
paintings. All products are made in Turkey with an environmental
sensitivity.
Yasemin learnt
stitching and sewing from her mother when she was young. In 1994 she graduated from İzmir
Olgunlaşma Enstitüsü, department of stylist
and modelist and became a dress designer.
After rediscovering her childhood love and talent for painting; she attended to
the studio of painter Yusuf Taktak and has continued her professional painter
career since then. She participated to 20 group exhibitions and 6 solo
exhibitions in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir cities of Turkey. Recently, she
participated to “Connecting Times” themed Florence Design Week in Italy with a
collage work of her in 2012. She was among the 8 painters who were selected
from Turkey. Besides, she participated 2nd İzmir International Biennal in 2013
with her “Turkish Women Composer Triptic Collage” work.
After passing of her
mother two years ago, who Yasemin shared all sewing and dress making
experiences, her mother has come to her mind strongly and rapidly. This led her
to design their common sewing experiences with her mother and decided to create
wearable “Şile bezi” dresses with “Yazma” collage-combinations. These style of
dresses are a reference to her mother’s productivity and dresses she stitched
in order to contribute to family budget as well as dresses she stitched for
Yasemin and her sister.
The carnation flower
motifs on dresses have a special meaning. They present love of her father, who
also passed away four months after the passing of her mother because of his
sadness, for her mother. He always brought carnation flowers to her mother on their
special days.
